Last seasons 50 km World Champion Johan Olsson of Sweden is not at 100% after a recent illness and will skip this weekend's World Cup opener in Ruka. "In an Olympic season, we do not take chances or take any risks whatsoever. We will protect Johan so that we do not risk him getting sick again.  My hope is that Johan will be  ready to take off in Lillehammer December 7 to 8," states Swedish Ski Team head coach Rikard Grip.

According to team physician Per ”Pliggen” Andersson, "Johan is not medically ready to cope with the stress of a mini tour with three competitions in three days."
