World Cup Finals kick off today in Stockholm

FIS Cross-Country World Cup Finals 2012 kick off today with Royal City Sprint in Stockholm. From the qualified athletes are only Petter Northug, Lukas Bauer, Johan Olsson (health reason) and Sami Jauhojärvi (privat reasons) not at the start. On the ladies side Kerttu Niskanen will miss the final due to health problems.

"The Cross-Country World Cup comes to the end and for the 4th time we have the big World Cup final with the top 50 from the overall World Cup standing, the U23 World Champions and the winners of the Continental Cups," FIS Cross-Country Race Director Jürg Capol says.

The finals will be carried out as stage format, with four different competitions. "In order to compete in the the final stage, you have to do all stages before," Jürg Capol explains.  "The weather for the next days looks great and you might know, Falun is the organizer of the WSC 2015, the spirit and atmosphere are on the way up. And the decision for the overall World Cup ladies is still open, 350 World Cup points as max. can be reached and gap between Marit Björgen and Justnya Kowalczyk is 138 points, let’s next days and start with sprint in Stockholm, we expect well more then 10’000 spectators for the final start today," Jürg Capol concludes.
