Big Sochi 2014 test events
From 1st to 3rd February, the Sochi 2014 Organising Committee for the Olympic Winter Games will hold international test events at the Olympic venues in the Mountain and Coastal Clusters. In addition to the FIS Cross-Country World Cup at the "RusSki Gorki" Jumping Center, this will be the first competition at which the Nordic Combined track and the K-125 Olympic Ski Jumping hill will be put to a test. There will be 71 athletes from 15 countries taking part in the stage of the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup at "RusSki Gorki".
The Cross-Country competition will be attended by the cream of international skiing, including the current World Cup leader and 2013 winner of the prestigious Tour de Ski, Alexander Legkov (RUS), Olympic champions and World Cup winners Petter Northug and Marit Bjoergen (both NOR), Dario Cologna (SUI), Justyna Kowalczyk (POL) and many other athletes from 26 countries.
FIS President Gian Franco Kasper remarked: "After several years of planning, the Sochi 2014 Organising Team will now have a final opportunity to test the new facilities at the highest level, and to continue to refine their processes and further train the staff. For the world’s best Cross-Country and Nordic Combined athletes this will be the only opportunity to experience the Olympic venues in competition shape before the 2014 Games in just a year’s time."
The Sochi test competitions will be followed by the FIS Freestyle Ski and Snowboard World Cup from 7th to 20th February and the FIS Alpine Skiing European Cup Finals from 10th to 17th March 2013.
