Snowboard: Seppe Smits triumphed in Antwerp

On 10th November, the show was happening in Belgium’s Antwerp, when 22-year-old Seppe Smits secured his first ever World Cup win and in his hometown. The main actor of the evening who also played a major role in the development of the largest ramp ever used in a big air World Cup, fulfilled his dream with a winning score of 183.25 points. In front of some 10,000 excited fans who had taken over the area at Waagnatie harbour and filled the streets next to the venue site, Clemens Schattschneider (AUT, 181.50) and Patrick Burgener (SUI, 180) completed the podium as second and third respectively.

Smits, the reigning slopestyle World Champion, had never expected anything like this: “When I came here, I was going for a top-3 result. This win is just above my expectations. It's such a crazy moment right now.”

Also his main rivals Clemens Schattschneider and Patrick Burgener were pleased with their personal outcomes. While the Austrian talent noted “It's unbelievable. Claiming the second spot at the first real contest of the season makes me happy,” the Swiss young gun was even more relieved: “I'm very glad. Actually, it wasn't my best day but due to a good qualifier heat, I was able to proceed directly to the finals where I was able to stomp all of my tricks.”

Presented by Volkswagen, the night event showcased some outstanding and high-class Snowboarding on the biggest ramp (38.5 metres) ever built in the FIS Snowboard World Cup history. The World Cup tour is scheduled to continue on 7th December in Montafon (AUT) staging snowboard cross events for both ladies and men.
