Tastes of FIS

Tastes of FIS

Korea took on an international atmosphere as World Championship Candidates greeted delegates and shared stories of their candidacies, whilst bringing local culture and cuisine to the FIS Congress. The Candidates’ representatives including national politicians and officials, mayors, Olympic medalists and top athletes greeted the packed crowds at the nine booths displaying their candidacies.

Regardless of strict custom regulations in Korea, the Candidates managed to present a wealth of tasty cuisine at their exhibition booths.

Anja Paerson, famous Swedish skier and FIS Athletes Commission member was present at the Are stand which presented delicious mushroom soup along with regional cheese, a selection of berries, reindeer and salmon.

Just next door was Lahti (FIN), where the mayor of the city, Jyrki Myllyvirta, and the Lahti team served snacks, fresh fruits and Finnish Vodka. Lahti managed to present its innovative bid with real-time facebook picture uploads of exhibition guests such as Walter Hofer, FIS Ski Jumping Race Director.

On the stand of Zakopane (POL), traditional smoked cheese Oscypek from Zakopane, sausage Krakowska and candies were served.

Applying for the FIS Nordic Worlds 2017 under the motto “Let us be your candy-date”, Planica (SLO) was well equipped with honey chocolate next to pumpkin spread on bread washed down with local Schnapps.

St. Moritz (SUI) managed to bring its famous chocolate to Korea with the help of the Swiss Embassy and served three delicious meals per day cooked by a chef from Seoul.

Meanwhile, Cortina d'Ampezzo (ITA) spoiled the Congress visitors with tasty pasta and parmesan cheese, Italian coffee and a Merlot red wine from Principi di Buttera.

Also, the Austrian applicant venue for Ski Flying World Championships 2016, Kulm served traditional snacks and Lebkuchen from the region.
A delegation of Oberstdorf (GER) presented their bid with traditional music and outfits, and offered cheese fondue and local Allgäu sausages along with Weissbier.

The daily “menus” definitely included dishes for all tastes and the FIS Family certainly ate well and with great variety in Korea.
