Longines App and Rising Star Prize

Longines, the famous Swiss watchmaker and official timekeeper for the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup and World Championships races recently announced its new mobile application.

Launched at the Kitzbuehel races, the Ski Live - Live Alpine Skiing by Longines App offers the possibility of watching races in real time thanks to the live timing feature. At the same time, users can catch up on the latest news concerning the World Cup and the World Championships, receive alerts and exclusive information on skiers and consult the results and rankings, including those for the Longines Rising Ski Stars.

In this new award launched in the beginning of the 2012/2013 FIS Alpine Ski World Cup season to support young athletes, two skiers have made a strong claim for the titles: United States rising star Mikaela Shiffrin and Frenchmen Alexis Pinturault.

Shiffrin is in an excellent lead with 638 points ahead of Switzerland’s Wendy Holdener (234) and Sweden’s Nathalie Eklund (128). She scored six victories (4 slalom, 2 giant slalom) so far this season and landed in third position three times.

In the men’s category, 21-year-old Pinturault who has clinched two victories (1 super combined, 1 slalom) and three podiums, clearly leads with 570 points ahead of Matthias Mayer from Austria (306) and Stefan Luitz (100) from Germany.

During the 2012/13 season finals in Lenzerheide (SUI), Longines will present the Longines Rising Ski Stars prizes to the best female skier under 21 years-old and the best male skier under 23. They will each receive a trophy, a Longines watch and a cheque for CHF 20,000.
