Oberstdorf, Germany - Candidate 2017
The 2012 FIS Congress in Korea will bring about the election of the host of the 2017 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships. On Tuesday, 29th May 2012, each Candidate will have the chance to make presentations to the respective Technical Committees, as well as a final presentation to the FIS Council. They will also display their candidatures to the extended FIS family on exhibition stands at the Congress venue.
The official announcement of the winner will take place on Thursday, 31st May 2012 at approximately 19:00 local time (12:00 CET) and will be streamed live on the FIS websites.
After hosting the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1987 and 2005, it is Oberstdorf's third bid for organizing the event in 2017. Celebrating its 60th birthday as one of the venues staging the traditional Four-Hill Tournament in the 2011/12 season, the town in the Allgäu region has also carried out numerous FIS World Cup events. Casting its spell over more than 25,000 winter sports fans each year, Oberstdorf attracted a total of 750,000 spectators in 1987 and 2005. With a strong passion and enthusiasm for winter sports, it would now like to revive its "winter wonderland" atmosphere by hosting the Nordic events in 2017.
To do so, Oberstdorf builds upon its broad know-how in organizing FIS events along with the environmentally friendly use of existing sports facilities and infrastructure, and safe conditions for athletes and participants.
