FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix concludes

13 years after his compatriot Sven Hannawald, Germany’s Andreas Wank has been crowned the overall champion of this year’s FIS Ski Jumping Grand Prix. The annual summer event reached its final stage on 3rd October in Klingenthal (GER).

In front of 9000 spectators, Germany’s Severin Freund won the final individual competition ahead of Taku Takeuchi (JPN) and Thomas Morgenstern (AUT). Andreas Wank (GER) captured the overall title with 449 points followed by Slovene Jurij Tepes (378) and Takeuchi (352).

The penultimate competition in the upper Austrian town of Hinzenbach was seen by a crowd of 9000 spectators, and can be characterised by comebacks. For athletes such as Germany’s Severin Freund and Austria’s Thomas Morgenstern it was the first competition this summer. But the win went to 20-year-old Maciej Kot of Poland. Severin Freund captured second place and had a great comeback after a long break due to an injury. Japan’s Take Takeuchi came in third.

On the ladies’ side, 15-year-old Sara Takanashi from Japan celebrated her first FIS Ski Jumping Summer Grand Prix triumph last week in Almaty (KAZ), whilst Alexandra Pretorius from Canada and Daniela Iraschko from Austria joined her on the podium in second and third.
