First ever FIS Snowboard World Cup in Belgium

The 2012/2013 FIS Snowboard World Cup tour is looking ahead to a special highlight when for the first time in history a contest will take place in Belgium, in the city of Antwerp. After the season’s kick-off in Cardrona (NZL), Antwerp’s harbor district Waagnatie will play host to the tour’s second stop, the Snowboard Big Air competition on 10th November.

The event presented by Volkswagen promises some big action as Organisers have put up a large-scale project by building the biggest ramp of 38.5 metres in the FIS Snowboard World Cup history. Some 60 riders from 14 countries will be benefitting from the best air time ever by catapulting themselves 16 metres throughout the skies of Antwerp.

FIS Snowboard Race Director Uwe Beier is looking forward to this historic event: “Next to the big air local hero Seppe Smith, some of the world best riders and biggest talents such as Petja PIiroinen, Pat Burgener, Marko Grilc and Maxence Parrot will also showcase their skills. This huge city ramp will offer a new dimension and thrill to the competition. The Organisers have put a huge effort into preparing and organising this outstanding contest. A harbour might be an “exotic” place usually reserved for tons and containers but the surroundings create a unique atmosphere both for athletes and spectators.”

Featuring a total of ten competitions, the 2013 FIS Snowboard Freestyle World Cup consists of  five halfpipe contests, four slopestyle events and one “big” big air. This season’s first contest was staged on 26th August 2012 in Cardrona (NZL) in the event of halfpipe with Japan’s Ryo Ayono winning the competition.
