NBC and USSA partner on live coverage
The U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association (USSA) and NBC Sports Network have announced to partner for historic first-ever U.S. live TV broadcasts of FIS disciplines, in particular FIS Audi Ski World Cups, to bring the excitement of ski sports into American homes.
The broadcast initiative is part of a concerted effort by the USSA under new Chief Marketing Officer Mike Jaquet to grow the public awareness of its sports through television and digital distribution.
The package will feature 11 hours of broadcasting on NBC and 22 on NBC Sports Network including Alpine Skiing, Freestyle and Snowboarding. The schedule will include Audi FIS Ski World Cup events in Aspen and Beaver, among others.
FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis reaffirmed: “NBC is hugely committed to Olympic sport and the development of its partnership with the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association is an important step for the FIS disciplines with live coverage in the United States. The top US athletes are already stars in many nations outside of the USA and this will be a great chance to increase their popularity at home. With the 2015 FIS Alpine World Ski Championships taking place in Vail-Beaver Creek, this agreement will enable the opportunity to build up national interest towards the Championships.”
