Snowboard: Prommegger and Takeuchi clinch Parallel World Cup opener in Carezza

Snowboard: Prommegger and Takeuchi clinch Parallel World Cup opener in Carezza

In some thrilling head-to-head action, Andreas Prommegger (AUT) and Tomoka Takeuchi (JPN) were victorious in this season’s first Snowboard parallel giant slalom event in Carezza (ITA) on 21st December.

Promegger, the reigning World Cup champion, kept up his winning surge by relegating his team mate Lukas Mathies and Russia’s Victor Wild to second and third place respectively.

In an equally exciting competition on the ladies’ side, Tomoka Takeuchi celebrated her career's first World Cup victory the day of her 29th birthday. The Japanese rider finished in front of Canada’s Caroline Calve and Germany’s Anke Karstens.

The event in Carezza was not only the season opener for parallel giant slalom, but also the first competition to be run with new starting gates. From this time on, drop down gates replace the “western gates” which opened like swing doors to the left and right.

The next event in parallel giant slalom will be held on 8th February 2013 in Rogla (SLO).
