FMC: Hansson, Ahrlin long-distance champions The popular long distance competition series FIS Marathon Cup (FMC) 2011 concluded with the traditional Birkebeinerrennet in Norway. After this last race, the new king and queen of long distance skiing are Sandra Hansson and Jerry Ahrlin (both SWE). Sweden in fact celebrated double victory thanks claiming the first two spots on the ladies' side of the FMC with Sandra Hansson and Susanne Nystroem. Hansson claimed the overall marathon title by capturing victory at the La Sgambeda, Jizerska 50, Marcialonga and the König Ludwig Lauf. She also won the most prestigious long distance race, the Vasaloppet, and secured the overall victory with 557 points already before the Birkebeinerrennet, in which she did not take part. Hansson's runner-up, by 52 points, is 28-year-old Susanne Nystroem (SWE) who seized second place overall already last year. Seraina Boner (SUI) captured third place with 460 points. In the men's ranking, last year's overall winner Fabio Santus (ITA) was beaten by Jerry Ahrlin (SWE). Ahrlin won the 2011 FMC by dominating Marcialonga, König Ludwig Lauf and Tartu Marathon. He collected 533 points and won the season title by 18 points ahead of Santus. This year's Birkebeinerennet winner Stanislav Rezac (CZE) secured third place overall with 500 points.
