2nd Chief of Media Seminar for Nordic Disciplines

2nd Chief of Media Seminar for Nordic Disciplines

The Chiefs of Media for the FIS Nordic disciplines of Cross-Country Skiing, Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping gathered for the 2nd joint seminar in conjunction with the FIS Autumn Meetings in Zürich on Sunday 9th October. Some 30 Chiefs of Media from the various World Cup Organizers met to continue the dialogue they began last October in Oslo, to network with peers and to discuss best practices in media services.

The seminar focused on the media operations pre-event time as well as during the event. Case study examples of pre-event preparations included the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck, next January and the FIS World Ski Flying Championships in Vikersund in February 2012. Vikersund 2012 shared their main challenges and goals, especially in the field of social media, and discussed the innovative solutions they have crafted on a limited budget to help promote the event. Another main topic was connectivity, as a good internet connection is crucial to ensure a smooth World Cup event for all involved parties and Jacques Bähler, Head of Project Management from Swisscom Event & Media Solutions, shared some interesting information from his experiences with various FIS World Cup events in Switzerland. Another important topic was internet content management, which also featured as a working group topic.

Focus on the services during the event was mixed zone management, or the area the athlete enters after they cross the finish line. With more than 10 years of experience as Event Manager of the Norwegian Ski Association, Terje Lund presented his experiences as Mixed Zone Manager at Oslo 2011 including the key lessons learned.

The next Chiefs of Media seminar for the FIS Nordic disciplines will be held in conjunction with the FIS Final Inspection for Val di Fiemme 2013 and the Forum Nordicum 2012 which will take place in October next year in Cavalese (ITA).
