Count-down is on for Schladming 2013

Count-down is on for Schladming 2013

The 6th meeting of the Coordination Group for the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming (AUT) took place immediately after the Audi FIS Ski World Cup Finals which also served as the main test event for the Championships in less than a year's time with participants from the Local Organizing Committee, the Austrian Ski Association, Schladming, the region of Steiermark, television and marketing rights holders European Broadcasting Union and Tridem Sports, host broadcaster ORF, as well as FIS representatives.

The full week of training and competition activity with a full run down of ceremonies, as well as an extensive side event program served as the perfect opportunity to test the brand new finish area and the new conference center that will host the main media center also in 2013 together with the various plans for transportation, accreditation, security and other logistics.

Held in perfect sunny weather for five straight days, the Finals showed its potential of living up to its bold ideal to become ‘the best World Championships ever' as less than 320 days remain until the opening day. Ticket sales for the 2013 event commenced the day after the Finals, on Monday 19th March 2012.

This was the first time all the events have been staged in Schladming and by using both the men's and ladies courses it was a terrific test of the Organizers' preparations. Additionally a number of key construction projects are still ongoing, notably the site that will host the ceremonies and sponsor activities. FIS Secretary General Sarah Lewis commented "The coordination group meeting recognized the highly successful FIS Alpine World Cup Finals as test event and the outstanding sport organisation as well as ORF's broadcast operation, so the focus of the organization can now turn to logistical aspects and planning of the World Broadcaster Meeting in mid-May".

The final inspection will take place in Schladming in early October.
