World Snow Day Award in Switzerland back on

World Snow Day Award in Switzerland back on

Last year Switzerland embraced the idea of World Snow Day whole-heartedly. For the inaugural event, the Industry Working Group Snow (IG Schnee) which includes representatives from Swiss-Ski, the Swiss Ropeways, Swiss Tourism, Swiss Snowsports and the BASPO (government department for sport) created an award which aimed to recognise the best World Snow Day events in Switzerland.

On 29th March 2012 the award was presented at the FIS Headquarters in Oberhofen. The winner was "Week of winter fun in ski resort Tschappina Heinzenberg", organized by ropeways Tschappina Heinzenberg, the ski club Beverin, the ski schools Tschappina and Snowfactory.ch and Viamala Tourismus.

For the second edition, IG Schnee will be staging the award again. The jury, consisting of representatives from IG Schnee recognizing the best World Snow Day event in Switzerland in 2013, will be looking at the following criteria:

- The choice of target group: children not yet involved with snow sports
- Coordination amongst the various stakeholders within the destination
- Level of innovation
- Transferability; can the concept be repeated by others

The award contains financial incentive. 1st prize will receive 3000 CHF, 2nd Prize 2000 CHF and 3rd Prize 1000 CHF.

This is a great initiative by Switzerland. If you are a Swiss World Snow Day Organiser do not miss out on this great award!
