Snowboard: Clark and Aono win in Cardrona

Kelly Clark (USA) and Ryo Aono (JPN) have won the first halfpipe event of the 2013 FIS Snowboard World Cup season. Both favorites for victory earned the top spot in a high class final held at Cardrona Alpine Ski Resort (NZL).

2002 Olympic Champion Clark clinched the women's final with the score of 83 out of a maximum of 100 points and just edged off Sophie Rodriguez (FRA, 81.75). Queralt Castellet (ESP, 71.75) rounded up the podium as third.

“I'm really happy with my result here. We are here to earn spots for our country in the Olympic qualifier period,” said Clark enjoying her positive World Cup season start.

On the men's side, high flyer Ryo Aono rode in a league on his own. The 22-years-old scored his 9th World Cup win with 95.25 points ahead of his fellow countryman Shuhei Sato (JPN, 88.50) and Yiwei Zhang (CHN, 84).

Prior to the Snowboard World Cup opener, FIS Freestyle Skiers already competed in the 22 ft halfpipe on 22nd August with Devin Logan (USA) and Torin Yater-Wallace (USA) coming out victorious in the men’s and ladies’ competitions (FIS Newsflash reported).
