Pierre Mignerey in interview
As part of its weekly interview series, FIS Newsflash interviewed FIS Cross-Country Race Director Pierre Mignerey, during his first season in this position.
FIS Newsflash: If you had to describe the new season in a maximum of five words, what would they be and why?
Pierre: “Snow, Excitement, FIS World Championships, Friendship, Popularity”
Snow because we have had the chance to start the season with good snow conditions and real winter landscapes.
Excitement because I am convinced that we will have an exciting season with new venues, two major events - the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships and the FIS Tour de Ski - and big fights for the podiums and medals.
FIS World Championships because Val di Fiemme will host our season highlight in February 2013.
Friendships because this new season will be once more a great opportunity for many people around the world to meet and share their passion for Cross-Country Skiing.
Popularity because the long distance so-called “popular” races are attracting more and more participation all around the world.
FIS Newsflash: You are new in the function of Cross-Country Race Director – a challenge but also an opportunity. What will be different in future?
Pierre: “Even if we made some adjustments in our organisation, the FIS Cross-Country crew remains almost the same as during the past two years.
We are working as a team, so taking over the Race Director position (from being Assistant in 2011/12) went very smoothly for me. We do not plan any revolution in the future, our main goal is to keep up the development of Cross-Country Skiing in close cooperation with all the stakeholders.”
FIS Newsflash: The FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in Val di Fiemme 2013 are less than 100 days away. You have recently participated in the final inspection. What can Cross-Country Skiing fans around the world look forward to?
Pierre: “The World Championships are definitely our best platform to present Cross-Country Skiing. Val di Fiemme is a traditional Cross-Country Skiing venue with an experienced Organising Committee. It is also well known for its outstanding hospitality and capacity to organize great side events. I am convinced that we will see extremely exiting races in a great atmosphere!”
