Last Call: 16th Matteo Baumgarten Award For the sixteenth time in a row, Family Baumgarten (ITA) is inviting interested young athletes to apply for the International Matteo Baumgarten Award in memory of their deceased son Matteo Baumgarten. This prize, which is presented annually, shall be awarded to a young athlete (male or female) who stands out amongst the participants for the greatest successes in Alpine ski racing in combination with the best performances in her/his studies at the university. All FIS member National Ski Associations may enter the name of one young athlete (between 18 and 24 years) to be considered. The athlete has to be registered at a university as a regular student. The candidate must present proof of good performance and must have participated in at least five FIS races registered in the FIS Calendar during the previous season. The amount of the prize money is set at € 3'000. Last year's winner was Jana Gantnerova from Slovakia. Former winners who have had the honor of winning this award include, among others, Tanja Poutiainen (FIN) and Tina Maze (SLO).
