Another leap forward: Fiemme 2013
The 7th meeting of the Coordination Group for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme took place on Monday 24th October. The representatives of FIS, European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and Tridem Sports, EBU's sponsor agency were again welcomed with typical Trentino hospitality to discuss the status of the preparations with 482 days remaining until the Championships.
The Organizing Committee was able to report on a number of milestones achieved during the summer months after the previous meeting in April 2011. The stadium construction work both at the Cross-Country venue at Lago di Tesero and the Ski Jumping venue in Predazzo is coming to an end and the various test events during the coming winter will take advantage of most of the new structures.
Besides the traditional final stages of the FIS Cross-Country Tour de Ski (7th-8th January), Val di Fiemme will host the ladies' FIS Ski Jumping World (‘Fiemme in Rosa') in mid-January (14th-15th) and a combined Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined FIS World Cup weekend on 4th-5th February 2012 - which means it will be a busy winter ahead. The Fiemme 2013 team headed by Piero DeGodenz is especially focused on introducing new concepts to create a great event atmosphere at the refurbished Predazzo Ski Jumping arena, including a special version of the South Nordic Festival there. During the Tour de Ski the side event program features the popular Tour de Gusto along with the 2nd edition of the ‘Rampa con I campioni' with a public bib distribution ceremony at the Cavalese South Nordic Festival.
The host broadcaster of the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, RAI also reported on advanced preparations together with the EBU, including the development of a structured plan to develop expertise through the designated RAI Fiemme 2013 team's attendance at major events. The Fiemme 2013 World Broadcaster Meeting is scheduled to be held in April 2012.
Sarah Lewis, FIS Secretary General, summarized: "Yet again we saw another major leap towards the final goal of outstanding Championships in February 2013. Many concepts are now turning into concrete activities and ideas into reality, with a detailed testing plan in place for this important pre-event season. A huge compliment is due to the entire team that may truly be proud of their presentation and the current state of preparations."
