Mild early season forces schedule changes
Unusually warm autumn weather forced the cancellation of the Audi FIS Ski World Cup event in Levi (FIN) scheduled for 12th-13th November 2011. "The decision was clear in the end, since there was no snow on the race hill on the day of the snow control and the forecast didn't promise any significant cold front," admitted General Secretary of the Organizing committee Mikko Saarinen.
The cancelled ladies' and men's slaloms will be rescheduled in Flachau (AUT) on 20th-21st December 2011. The ladies' slalom will take place on Tuesday 20th December with the first run starting at 15:30 CET and the second run at 18:30 CET. The men's slalom will be held on Wednesday 21st December at the same time (15:30 CET / 18:30 CET).
The next Audi FIS Ski World Cup events on schedule are the ladies' giant slalom and slalom events in Aspen (USA) on 26th-27th November and the men's speed opening with a downhill and super-G at Lake Louise (CAN) at the same time.
Final decision for the Cross-Country World Cup in Beitostoelen Thursday
Despite the warm conditions the Norwegian Ski Association is investing enormous efforts to secure the opening event of the FIS Cross-Country World Cup presented by Viessmann in Norway as scheduled on 19th-20th November.
"The Norwegian Ski Federation is evaluating all possible solutions together with the Organizing Committee," stated Jürg Capol, FIS Race Director. "We will see until Thursday afternoon whether the World Cup opening can be carried out as scheduled or if we have to cancel the event. Venues in other countries are not an option presently," Jürg Capol, FIS Race Director for Cross-Country Skiing explained.
The FIS Continental Cup Ski Jumping (ladies and men) competitions in Rovaniemi (FIN) scheduled for 19th-20th November have already been postponed to 29th-30th November due to warm temperatures and lack of snow.
