FIS signals green light for Schladming 2013
126 days before the Official Opening of the FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2013 in Schladming it was time for the on site FIS Final Inspection at the base of the Planai on Monday, 1st October 2012.
FIS President Gian Franco Kasper led the review of the preparations for the winter season’s highlight event together with Peter Schröcksnadel, FIS Council Member and President of the Austrian Ski Association. The meeting saw the participation of representatives of the Local Organising Committee, the Austrian Ski Association, the town of Schladming and state of Styria, the rights holder European Broadcasting Union, its marketing partner Tridem Sports, host broadcaster ORF and many other stakeholders, along with FIS professional staff and technical experts.
In concluding the Final Inspection, President Kasper expressed his pleasure about the status of the work: “Of course there remains much to be done in the remaining four months which is normal, but we are happy with the current situation and can feel confident about the season’s title event. With the Austrian Ski Association at the helm and the experienced organising team from Schladming, we are confident that the Championships will be a top event.”
The Final Inspection began on Sunday, 30th September with the inspection of the Medal Plaza followed by a review of the latest plans and an inspection of the finish area. Monday morning it was time to review World Championships courses and confirm the start positions. The only change to previous plans included lowering of the ladies’ GS start by a few meters.
FIS Chief Race Director Günther Hujara was very pleased with the course conditions and stated: “Thanks to the very valuable experiences gained during the World Cup Finals 2012, the last details have been taken care of and now, the only thing missing is the snow!”
