2nd large globe for Lamy Chappuis

2nd large globe for Lamy Chappuis

The DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup season concluded at the Lahti Ski Games last weekend. Whilst the individual victories in the two final events went to Germany, the overall victory in the season's World Cup rankings belongs to Frenchman Jason Lamy Chappuis who clinched the large crystal globe for the second time in a row. Norway's Mikko Kokslien took 2nd overall whilst Austria secured the Nations Cup trophy with a clear margin.

The World Championships in Oslo were very successful for the German team and the athletes had retained their great shape for the finals in Lahti. In the absence of Oslo 2011 silver medalist Tino Edelmann, who returned home due to health problems, Bjoern Kircheisen celebrated his 15th World Cup victory after a 15-month lean period, followed by Eric Frenzel in the first competition on Friday. On Saturday, 19-year-old Johannes Rydzek took his first World Cup win as Eric Frenzel again confirmed a German double victory ahead of Austrian Felix Gottwald (35). Gottwald secured yet another podium finish in the last competition of his illustrious career. "It is nice that I could end my career on the podium. The final jump and the final race are very emotional moments", said Gottwald who also finished 3rd in the overall season rankings.

Whilst Gottwald and Swiss Ronny Heer (30), amongst potentially others, will end their careers after this season, the young generation around Rydzek and Frenzel are likely to be the main challengers of 24-year-old overall winner Lamy Chappuis next season.
