Pierre Mignerey new Cross-Country Race Director

Pierre Mignerey new Cross-Country Race Director

Serving in his role as Assistant Race Director Cross-Country since spring 2010, Pierre Mignerey (FRA) will now succeed Jürg Capol (SUI) in the function of FIS Cross-Country Race Director as of 1st July.

FIS Newsflash used this occasion to interview Pierre about his new role:

FIS Newsflash: How do you feel about your new function and what will be different from your previous role?

Pierre Mignerey: “I’m excited to tackle this new challenge, to work with the FIS Cross-Country crew and further cooperate with the different stakeholders for the benefit of Cross-Country Skiing. Jürg is leaving after nine years as Race Director to move to a new position in FIS Marketing AG. He has put in place a number of important changes and improvements. I believe that we will be able to follow this direction and continue the development of our discipline.
As Race Director, I will be more involved in the Cross-Country discipline management, calendar planning and coordination of the FIS Cross-Country crew. Next to these new responsibilities, I will continue to handle the sports-technical issues, while Sandra Spitz (GER) in her new role of FIS Cross-Country Event Coordinator will take over all issues related to TV production and coordination.”

FIS Newsflash: What are your goals for next season?

Pierre Mignerey: “The next season is already coming in a few months and the basic plan has been discussed and decided during the 2012 FIS Congress in Korea. It's not the time to introduce new ideas rather we will be focusing on the operational follow-up and implementation of the Congress decisions. Furthermore, one of the main goals is to launch the next season with an established yet new FIS Cross-Country crew and to create even more cooperation with our different partners: Organising Committees, teams, TV directors, FIS Marketing AG, sponsors and the media.”

FIS Newsflash: How do you see Cross-Country Skiing developing in future?

Pierre Mignerey: “In my opinion, the biggest changes in terms of competition formats were done during the last years. The World Cup program needs to be stabilised and we will continue to work on long-term planning in close cooperation with the other Nordic disciplines.
We will also concentrate our efforts site by site on the improvement of TV production, general event quality (side activities, stadium atmosphere, team facilities, etc.) and communication around our discipline to promote the sport even further.
In addition, it seems also necessary to prepare the future by following the development of all types of international Cross-Country competitions (from Continental Cups to roller skiing, youth and popular competitions) and working with new countries which might offer further potential for our discipline.”
