Successful launch of Clean as Snow
FIS's new anti-doping campaign "Say NO! to Doping Campaign, Clean as Snow" was launched last weekend in Ruka, Kuusamo (FIN). Say NO! To Doping is an awareness campaign created by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) to support the fight for doping-free sport.
At the press conference during the FIS World Cup Nordic Opening, Sarah Lewis, FIS Secretary General commented that all involved parties are key stakeholders: "This is the campaign on the behalf of FIS to say NO to doping. This is an important message that all athletes, all officials and everybody involved with the sport really want to get out there. We have major support by the members of our Athletes' Commission to stand behind and endorse Clean as Snow".
With the support of the three FIS Athletes' Commission members from the Nordic disciplines, Cross-Country skier Kikkan Randall (USA), Nordic Combined athlete Jan Schmid (NOR) and Cross-Country skier Sami Jauhojärvi (FIN), the launch was positively received by media and all other involved parties.
More than 350 athletes participated in the Nordic Opening last weekend, and received the message with an information leaflet about the campaign and promotional material. Accredited media as well as the TV commentators were informed about the campaign, and TV coverage after the races delivered great images ofheavy snowfall and athletes signing on to the Clean as Snow campaign.
Kikkan Randall: "I am involved with an organization called Fast and Female as the lead U.S. ambassador. Basically we saw a need out there to inspire the next generation and girls in particular to stay involved with sports, make friends, have positive role models and get to experience some of the opportunities that we have had as athletes. I think this ties in really well with the say NO to doping campaign and the Clean as Snow. As athletes we are the role models for the next generation, and if we can show the children of the world that you can compete clean and you can go out there and give it your best and be a World Champion, be an Olympic Champion and win World Cup medals, then they will grow up knowing that is the norm, and that is what we want to see for the future".
Sami Jauhojärvi: "I am working with children in Finland, trying to bring them inside Cross-Country skiing, and I am also trying to be a role model for young athletes. I want to give the information to the young athletes that it is possible to get top results without doping".

The Clean as Snow campaign will continue this week in Lillehammer (NOR) with the female ski jumpers showing their support.
