World’s largest hill in Vikersund (NOR)

World’s largest hill in Vikersund (NOR)

The Vikersund Ski Flying hill is now officially the world's largest Ski Jumping facility. The host venue of the 2012 FIS Ski Flying World Championships staged its first World Cup competitions on the new hill as a final test event for the athletes before the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo.

Built according to the latest standards and specifications the new hill received excellent feedback from the world's best jumpers. Johan Remen Evensen, the new Norwegian ski jumping star, who set the new world record of 246.5 m right on the first day of training, commented: "The hill here is great, probably the best ski flying hill in the world."

Robert Kranjec, another of world's best ski fliers also paid a big compliment to the organizers in Vikersund. "The hill is very modern and it's safer because there you are about three times as high in the air at 170 m. Here you always have contact with the landing area", said the Slovene to the website siol.net. "Planica is also safe," Kranjec said about his home hill, "but the flight is steadier here. The Norwegians built a great ski flying hill."
