US racers Biesemeyer, Staples win NorAm Alpine It was a grueling six days of racing, not only for the racers but also for the volunteers that had to work with difficult weather conditions in Whistler, CAN, where the 2011 NorAm Alpine finals were held from 15-20th March 2011. Both of the 2011 overall titles went to American skiers this year: Kiley Staples of the U.S. Ski Team won the ladies overall standings with 1'242 points. Second place went to teammate Julia Ford while the 15-year-old prodigy Mikaela Shiffrin (also USA) finished 3rd. Victoria Stevens was the top Canadian in the ladies' overall standings, finishing fourth with a total of 698 points. Meanwhile, Tommy Biesemeyer won the men's overall standings with 1'009 points whilst teammates Colby Granstrom finished second and Ryan Cochran-Siegle third. Last year's title winner Dustin Cook was the best Canadian in 5th. "As the Northwest Funds Nor-Am series come to a close I would like to give a special thanks to all the volunteers, organizing committees and the Whistler-Blackcomb Ski resort for their hard work and continued support in ski racing in North America," said USSA National Programs and Events Director, Philippe Bernier. "We have world class volunteers that help us produce world class athletes." In terms of the event titles, Cochran-Siegle grabbed his second consecutive NorAm super-G title whilst Biesemeyer finished first in the men's super combined rankings and Wiley Maple won the downhill crown. The men's slalom was won by Norway's Jonathan Nordbotten and the giant slalom by Will Gregorak (USA). On the ladies' side, Julia Ford took the DH, SG and SC titles, with Mikaela Shiffrin winning the slalom and Canada's Marie-Pier Prefontaine claiming the GS.
