All set for Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup Opening

The Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup Opening in Innichen/San Candido this coming weekend is good to go. Low temperatures in the last couple of days have allowed the Organizers to produce plenty of artificial snow, that combined with some natural snow will enable the preparation of a great World Cup course. This year's World Cup is the third one held in Innichen/San Candido, but with the past experience from hosting the FIS Snowboard World Championships in 1999 and several snowboard cross events, it will be a well-skilled Organizing Committee welcoming the athletes.

With a double race this weekend, there are a many World Cup points up for grabs. Last year's winner of the overall ski cross World Cup, Andy Matt (AUT) is set to defend his title, and aims to begin by winning in Italy. "After a long preparation we cannot wait for the World Cup season to start already. We are really looking forward to it, and more motivated than ever, especially to fight against our competitors and to find out who the best ones are this season," a highly excited Andy Matt (AUT) said just days before the season opener.

With more than 120 athletes representing 19 nations, ski cross has grown to become a very popular event. "The Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup has taken a big step this year with such a renowned and long-term sponsor of skiing, Audi becoming our title sponsor. It adds more professionalism to it, and the new look and feel of the entire series is amazing," commented Joseph Fitzgerald, FIS Freestyle Ski Coordinator.

The Audi FIS Ski Cross World Cup will continue in St. Johann (AUT) and Alpe d'Huez (FRA) in January.
