Nordic Combined moves to Chaux-Neuve
The DKB Nordic Combined World Cup presented by Rauch moves into its sixth World Cup weekend, starting on Friday 13th January. With the cancellation of Zakopane scheduled for the end of January, the Organizing Committee in Chaux-Neuve gladly took on an extra World Cup competition this weekend and will host a total of three World Cup events in as many days. The competition on Friday will be number 382 since the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup started in December 1983.
Early Wednesday morning, a few teams were already training on the ski jumping hill which was re-built last year, in addition to building a modern jumping tower. In perfect conditions just around freezing, a blue sky and a base of 30 cm artificial snow, everything is set for an exciting World Cup weekend in France. The Cross-Country course is 2.5 km long with the start next to the Ski Jumping hill.
This year the DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup will visit Chaux-Neuve for the 8th time, after the first World Cup was held there in 1996. The local Organizing Committee includes the mother of the local Nordic Combined hero Jason Lamy Chappuis. Last year, he won the last World Cup competition in front of thousands of cheering spectators. Overall Chaux-Neuve has become one of the most popular events for spectators, media and athletes in the last couple of years. Starting the competitions on Friday, Jason will be wearing the yellow leader bib, and will surely do his best to keep this bib throughout the weekend. He currently has a lead in the FIS Nordic Combined World Cup standings with 590 points ahead of Akito Watabe (JPN) on 411 points and Tino Edelmann (GER) with 405 points.
The FIS Nordic Combined World Cup will have a break until 3rd February, where it continues in Val di Fiemme (ITA) which will be hosting the second cancelled competition from Zakopane, which means that the World Cup calendar remains complete for the 2011/12 season.
