Great snow most everywhere After the snow deluge that blanketed Europe for much of December up to Christmas, the snowfall has eased to a more regular rate and conditions have stabilized, even with the sun appearing post-Holidays. However the off-piste avalanche risk remains high around Europe. The USA, which had been suffering from snow shortages, has seen some of improvements with falls on both sides of the country although most areas could do with more. French resorts have seen the most of the snow of anywhere in the world over the past few weeks and now have some of the deepest snow bases anywhere. For the last week, Tignes reports the most snowfall with 179cm while more than 1000km of piste are open in the Dolomiti Superski region of Italy. Conditions have also improved dramatically in the Pyrenees a fortnight after resorts in the region could hardly open due to a lack of natural snowfall and temperatures too warm for snowmaking. In addition, there have been some good snowfalls in Scandinavia in the past 24 hours with the region's largest resort Are in Sweden and Oppdal in Norway issuing powder alarms. Enjoy the white stuff!
