Ski jumping legend Jiri Raska passed away The Czech Republic has lost one of its most important personalities. The Czech ski jumping legend Jiri Raska died at age 70 after a long and serious illness on 20th January. At the Olympic Winter Games 1968 in Grenoble (FRA), Raska won the gold medal on the normal hill and silver on the large hill. In season 1970/71 he won the Four-Hills-Tournament. After retiring in 1976 he started working as coach. Last autumn, Raska was awarded a medal of merit by the Czech president Vaclav Klaus to honor his great achievements. His two grandsons Jan and Jiri Mazoch have followed in his footsteps and also became ski jumpers. Contributed by FISSkijumping.com |
