Successful dress rehearsal in Predazzo The ski jumpers and nordic combined athletes had their dress rehearsal for the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Predazzo, Val di Fiemme, last weekend. In use for the first time since 2008, the refurnished facility in Predazzo hosted a total of five jumping competitions on the Trampolino dal Ben Schanze (K120, HS 134) over the three days, two Bauhaus FIS Ski Jumping World Cup events on Saturday and Sunday, and a total of three DKB FIS Nordic Combined World Cup jumping events. And overall, new the facility received very positive feedback. Gregor Schlierenzauer (AUT) and Kamil Stoch (POL), the two Ski Jumping World Cup winners were obviously very happy with the reconstructed venue. But the same applies to the other athletes, coaches, team staff, officials and media representatives who seemed pleased with the status of the preparations for the 2013 Worlds with a year to go. All were especially impressed by the new office and logistical support building that contains the new sub-media center, accreditation and race offices along with various meeting rooms. Some 3‘000 spectators attended each of the two ski jumping events. They could enjoy a new entertainment concept by Sysko Sport Entertainment which is also in charge of creating the famous atmosphere at the Zakopane World Cup events. The concept will be re-applied at the World Championships in a year's time. The town of Predazzo also saw a highly successful edition of the South Nordic Festival before and after the evening prize ceremonies. Fiemme 2013 Marketing Director Sandro Pertile was both satisfied and relieved after the successful World Cup weekend: "Yes we are happy with the weekend. I believe we are on a good way and the new concept has proved itself. We have received particularly positive feedback on the new side events and entertainment. We now know what we still need to do and are optimistically looking forward to the coming year." Some final construction work remains on the grandstand which will continue from end of March and be finished in July or latest in August 2012. The decision whether the K60 hill will be renovated before or after the World Championships is still pending. For more information visit www.fiemme2013.com Contributed by Horst Nilgen |
