Innerhofer, Brignone, Aubert win @Verbier High5 Two weeks after the FIS Alpine Ski World Cup Finals in Lenzerheide (SUI), several of the world's best alpine skiers celebrated the end of the season in Verbier where the much anticipated High Five by Carlsberg, a pro-am skiing event, took place for the 11th time. At the Verbier High Five, top alpine racers compete along with amateur skiers in five events with the main goal of enjoying a fun day of ski racing at the end of the ski season. This year, Italy's Frederica Brigonone, GAP 2011 silver medalist in the giant slalom, and Sandrine Aubert of France tied for victory in the ladies' competition whilst in the men's event, three-time world championships medalist Christof Innerhofer beat last year's winner Didier Cuche for the title. For Cuche it was his third 2nd place finish in Verbier. The Verbier High Five competition includes a giant slalom race, the so-called speed monster on a 120 meter course, a ski cross and the Carlsberg triathlon where three secret activities test the racers' after-ski skills. For the final, a parallel slalom sees the pros race in teams with the best-ranked amateurs. |
