FIS-CIT sees growth in new countries, youngster participation
The 2010/11 season saw another successful chapter for FIS-CIT (citadin) racing. More than 100 FIS-CIT races, 28 belonging to the Arnold Lunn World Cup, were organized. Most of the events were held in the region of the Alps but Spain, the Czech Republic and Poland also hosted competitions. Altogether 5'600 ladies and 10'400 men competed. It is the goal of the FIS-CIT Committee to organize competitions in all events which seems to have increased their interest in a large number of countries. In a few countries, the FIS-CIT races play an important role in the development work for youngsters and contribute to general recruitment. Growth among the so-called small nations is also very positive.
A season highlight was the Coupe d'Europe in Oberstaufen/Steibis (GER). The German Ski Association together with a ski club from Baden Württemberg organized a night slalom, giant slalom and combined races for the Coupe d'Europe. A great event, especially for the youngsters, who especially enjoyed the combined event.
The finals took place at Patscherkofel near Innsbruck (AUT). The high number of participants and participating nations was particularly positive. Exciting races delivered the final points for the titles and the Nations Cup alike.
At the FIS Calendar Conference, it was the honor of the chairman to summarize the successful season. Great thanks belong to the nations that organized FIS-CIT races. It should be noted that various new countries have also inquired about the possibility of participating which leads to believe that the competitions around the Arnold Lunn World Cup could become even more attractive in the future.
