Audi FIS Ski World Cup ends year in Lienz, Bormio The final Audi FIS Ski World Cup races of the 2011 calendar year are taking place on schedule in Lienz (AUT) for the ladies and in Bormio (ITA) for the men. The ladies' pair of tech races is featuring the season's 3rd giant slalom and 4th slalom while the men are racing on the rugged Stelvio slope in the 3rd downhill race of the 2011/12 season. 22-year-old Anna Fenninger may be the reigning super combined world champion, but until Wednesday 28th December she had never stood on a World Cup giant slalom podium. In Lienz, in front of a very loud home crowd, the Austrian soared right to the top step, claiming her first World Cup victory after her five other World Cup podium finishes have come in super-G and downhill. Italian giant slalom specialist Federica Brignone was back to form finishing second as France's Tessa Worley also appeared back on her game, rounding out the podium in third. After the two downhill trainings in Bormio, one of the main favorites for victory for Thursday's downhill would appear to be Austria's Klaus Kröll, challenged by veteran Didier Cuche who is still looking for his first Stelvio win, his Swiss teammate Patrick Küng, France's Adrian Theaux and German Stephan Keppler. However, Stelvio is known to be fun, scary, fast and painful, all at the same time, so surprises are often seen! The City Parallel Event scheduled in Munich (GER) on New Year's Day had to be cancelled due to a lack of snow, warm temperatures with rain and a poor forecast. The event will not be rescheduled this season. Another City Parallel Event is set for Moscow (RUS) for 21st February 2012. The season will continue in 2012 as planned with the ladies' and men's slalom events in Zagreb (CRO) on 3rd and 5th January, followed by the ladies' speed events in Bad Kleinkirchheim (AUT) and the men's tech weekend in Adelboden (SUI) on 7th-8th January 2012.
