Norway dominates Roller Skiing Worlds

Norway dominates Roller Skiing Worlds

Norway hosted its first FIS Roller Skiing World Championships last week. Aure and Kristiansund welcomed the world's best rollerskiers from 9th-13th August 2011. While a total of 19 nations participated, the Norwegian athletes won 13 out of 16 competitions on their home tracks.

The FIS Roller Skiing World Championships took place parallel to the traditional Toppidrettsveka, a series of roller skiing, mountain biking and running competitions for endurance athletes of all levels.
The World Championships in Aure/Kristiansund was a clear season highlight for the roller skiing specialists with some of the best Cross-Country skiers at the start, too. Marit Bjoergen, Charlotte Kalla, and Petter Northug spiced up the first days of competition, each claiming one or more world champion titles.

The Norwegian junior talent Barbro Kvaale lead the individual medal count. The 19-year old junior skier from the Brandbu Ski Club won all her four competitions, taking home a complete set of gold medals.
Norway topped the medal ranking with 13 gold medals out of 16 possible, three silver medals and two bronze medals. Sweden finished second with two gold medals whilst Armenia finished in third place with one gold medal.
