38th edition of Schneehase now available

The “Schneehase” (the snow bunny) is a book with enormously rich tradition that is published every fourth year by the Swiss Academic Ski Club (SAS), an institution intricately intertwined with the history of skiing in Switzerland. FIS President Gian Franco Kasper hosted the Book Vernissage at the FIS Office in Oberhofen on Tuesday evening when a group of esteemed guests enjoyed themselves exchanging many fascinating skiing stories and experiences.

The Schneehase is not merely the literary record of the SAS. Borrowing a quote from Martin Hodler, President of SAS “it is first and foremost a time capsule for the meaningful, if not unique intellectual work of the SAS since its founding”. With impressive documentation on the development of skiing, the book features four parts, from ‘History and tradition’, ‘Future and innovation,’ ‘Personalities and values’ to ‘Club life and results.’

The 38th edition of Schneehase presents some of the mesmerizing history of skiing and the SAS to young people. Besides an article on the role and creation of the Schneehase itself, nearly one thousand years of Cross-Country Skiing history and the story of the Kandahar Ski Club are described in detail. With a great variety of contributors from Switzerland, Norway and England, the book offers exciting articles and fascinating pictures from all over the world.
