Kindergarten Ski School Viamala awarded as best World Snow Day concept in Switzerland 39 nations participated in the inaugural FIS World Snow Day on 22nd January 2012 to celebrate snow and snow sports. The Swiss were especially active and in all parts of the country various events were carried out. The so-called Working Group Snow (IG Schnee) that includes besides Swiss-Ski, the Swiss Ropeways, Swiss Tourism, Swiss Snowsports and the BASPO (government department for sport) organized a competition where the Swiss ski resorts were challenged to create projects to promote snow sports on the World Snow Day. 12 concepts were submitted to the jury that consisted of representatives of the Working Group Snow participants. The main criteria consisted of: the choice of target group with focus on children not yet involved with snow sports; coordination amongst the various stakeholders within the destination; level of innovation; and ability for others to repeat the concept. The award presentation for the best concepts took place at the FIS Headquarters in Oberhofen on Thursday 29th Marc in the presence of the FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. The winner was the project "Week of winter fun in ski resort Tschappina Heinzenberg", organized by ropeways Tschappina Heinzenberg, the ski club Beverin, the ski schools Tschappina and Snowfactory.ch and Viamala Tourismus. The delegation received a cheque of 3000 Swiss francs from Vice President of Swiss Ropeways Fulvio Sartori. 2nd place was awarded to project „Postenlauf Schneesport" from Grächen, which entailed snow shoeing, tobogganing, snow biking, avalanche education, snowboarding, skiing and freestyle. Third place went to the concept of Adelboden Tourismus for a free-of-charge ski day which was focused on newcomers to snow. |
