TV experts at work for quality TV production Just before the FIS Tour de Ski evaluation meeting in Munich a group of around 20 highly engaged FIS Cross-Country TV experts, commentators, representatives of the international TV rights holder Infront Sports & Media and FIS met in Munich on April 18-19th to review the season 2011/12 from the perspective of TV production. The group also debated the various competition formats and their presentation and communication to TV viewers. Feedback and challenges related to TV experts working in a foreign country were brought onto the table as well. An important issue that was tackled by the group was the future potential development of the sport, especially how to convey more stories, emotions and action to Cross-Country fans watching television in order to increase interest in the sport. "It was pleasing to see such active and constructive discussions among the experts. They are clearly great fans of Cross-Country Skiing and we highly appreciate their willingness to participate in further developing the sport. One of the basic issues to be tackled remains TV production. Even if all other factors of the competition are good, a poorly televised product destroys a lot. Three years ago the FIS Broadcasting Manual was successfully introduced. During the summer it will be updated and reviewed to provide the latest guidelines and principles for all TV producers and directors," commented Jürg Capol, FIS Race Director Cross-Country.
