Jumping/Combined: Getting ready for Sochi 2014 Many organizational steps are required until a nation can host a FIS Ski Jumping World Cup and Russia is well on its way. With a view towards the Olympic Winter Games Sochi 2014 and the test competitions a year earlier, a seminar took place in Toksovo and Kavkolovo near St. Petersburg last week. 90 participants from all over the country received information on organizing a World Cup event at the highest level. FIS instructors were Continental Cup Coordinator Horst Tielmann for Ski Jumping and Nordic Combined Race Director Ulrich Wehling. They were accompanied by Agnieszka Baczkowska (POL), who provided insight into administrative organization. The seminar was held in a conference hall of a Russian Orthodox church and started with an "impressive service", said Tielmann and added: "The priest is a former skier." The seminar included both practical and theoretical parts. The practical sessions were carried out at the hill facilities of Kavkolovo with a focus on the tasks of the competition committee and its staff. In addition, the work of the race office including organization of a team captains' meeting was simulated. Wehling also constructed a start and finish area for Nordic Combined. To guarantee a smooth technical run of events, Swiss Timing presented possibilities for Russia and simulated carrying out a competition. According to Tielmann: "All in all, the seminar was well prepared by FIS Ski Jumping Committee member Yuri Kalinin and the participants very enthusiastic", he said.
