Sochi 2014: Cross-Country prep in full swing

Sochi 2014: Cross-Country prep in full swing

From 18th to 21st July, FIS Cross-Country Race Director Jürg Capol and FIS Homologation expert Hermod Björkestöl will visit the Olympic Cross-Country venue for Sochi 2014. The Cross-Country competitions will be held during the Sochi Games in the mountain cluster Krasyana Polyana, which is situated about an hours drive from Sochi.

The building phase is underway and most parts of the Cross-Country track will be finished towards the winter. „I am very satisfied with the progress," said Jürg Capol. „During the past months a lot was built up and I am always impressed how fast things can go in Russia. Beside some small adaptions which have to be made due to a natural change of circumstances, the progress is according to the plan and will be ready in time for the first test events in the upcoming February."

The athletes village, which is located close to the venue, is also being prepared and the first buildings have already been developed.

In addition to assessing the building development the team led by Jürg Capol and Sochi Cross-Country Manager Georgy Kadikov will take the time to review the Cross-Country Organising Committee structure as well as to define the next steps of preparation.
