Voice of the Chairman: Niklas Carlsson (SWE)

Voice of the Chairman: Niklas Carlsson (SWE)

Meeting in Ljubljana in early June, the FIS Council named Niklas Carlsson, the newly-appointed Secretary General of the Swedish Ski Association, to lead the new FIS Committee for European Questions. As has become traditional, FIS Newsflash herewith provides a brief introduction on the new Committee Chairman following his appointment.

“I am very honored to be selected by the FIS Council to the position of Chairman of the Committee for European Questions. This is a new Committee just established to assess specific issues affecting European skiing and to share best practice relating to the development of skiing and
snowboarding activities amongst European nations.

I believe that many associations are already doing a very good job in many areas. In my view, the first step for the new Committee will be too see how we can learn from each other and what areas we all together should work on to strengthen. I also see the first year as the time needed to gather background information to determine what has been done and what should be done in the future.

I think an advantage for me in this position is that I have been working on many levels in the world of skiing, from a ski club to FIS, which provides me with unique experience and perspective which I hope will help me guide the Committee’s work as its chairman.

I also think it is important to point out that it will be equally valuable for the new Committee to establish good communication to the non-European countries, so that they too are involved in questions on our agenda that may be relevant for them as well.”
