Kreischberg 2015 gets in shape

Kreischberg 2015 gets in shape

Although there are still some three years to the first combined FIS Freestyle Skiing and Snowboard World Championships, the Austrian ski resort of Kreischberg is getting ready to host the spectacle.

The Styrian venue plans to develop additional four kilometers of slopes to be finished in late 2012. As a true highlight, the first 10-person tram in the region of Styria will be inaugurated in December 2013. Further investments include artificial snow blowers and two new cats.

With winter sports and tourism constituting a major economic mainstay of the region, the event Organizers are pleased that Kreischberg is starting to play a more important role in the Styrian winter sport landscape.

FIS Freestyle Skiing Coordinator Joe Fitzgerald stated: "It is great working with such an experienced Organizer, they just love winter sports. They have extensive capacity in staging major FIS Snowboard competitions since 1996 and of course the 2003 FIS Snowboard World Championships. In Freestyle Skiing, we directly have benefited from these course and infrastructure developments and have held World Cups in ski cross since 2005 and more recently added ski halfpipe in 2011 and an aerial World Cup in 2012. Next up is the test event program with mogul World Cup planned this coming December 2012 on a newly developed course."

Until the kick-off of the Double World Championships in 2015, a total of 9.1 million euros will be invested in order to get the area set for hosting the event.
