Uli Wehling to turn 60
FIS Race Director for Nordic Combined Ulrich Wehling, a three time Nordic Combined Olympic champion, will be turning 60 on Sunday, 8th July 2012.
The German, who won Olympic gold medals on three different continents in Sapporo 1972, Innsbruck 1976 and Lake Placid 1980, as well as winning the FIS World Championships in Falun in 1974 joined the FIS Nordic Combined staff in1992. Throughout the years, Uli Wehling participated in a record number of 10 Olympic Winter Games, both during his active years and in an official function.
“I was 19 when I had the possibility to travel to Sapporo, Japan, to see a country which was that far away, in distance and mentality, from Europe. I have had the possibility to see the Games from different angles, and to follow the development of the whole movement. There are so many nice and important memories working in international ski sports,” Uli Wehling stated.
Uli Wehling is married, lives in Thun, and has two grown-up daughters.
