Second half for Grass Skiing World Cup season

Second half for Grass Skiing World Cup season

Last weekend saw the end of the first half of the FIS Grass Skiing World Cup season in Klinek-Predklasteri (CZE) where slalom and giant slalom events were carried out. The second phase is set to continue on 10th-12th August in San Sicario (ITA) with super-G and giant slalom races.

The men’s current World Cup standings list sees Jan Nemec (CZE) in first position ahead of Edoardo Frau (ITA) and Michael Stocker (AUT). Jan Nemec has been dominating the scene since 2009 but is seeing formidable challenges from his competitors this season. The second half of the World Cup also promises to be exciting on the ladies’ side where Ingrid Hirschhofer (AUT) and 23 years younger Illaria Sommervilla (ITA) are racing head-to-head. Both achieved two top podium results and the same number of 2nd places.

Two FIS Grass Skiing World Cup events already took place in Cattinara (ITA) and Marbachegg (SUI) in June. After the next competition in San Sicario (ITA), the tour will move to Dizin (IRA), whilst Austria’s Rettenbach will be staging the World Cup finals on 1st-2nd September.

This year’s junior highlight, the FIS Grass Skiing Junior World Championships, will be held from 25th to 29th July in Burbach (GER).
