Ski Jumping: Kofler and Schlierenzauer triumph in Engelberg; Takanashi wins ladies tournament in Ramsau
The jumpers of Austria were again the dominating athletes in Engelberg (SUI) at the final two FIS Ski Jumping World Cup competitions before the Christmas break. Andreas Kofler and Gregor Schlierenzauer won at the foot of the Titlis-Mountain on Saturday, 15th and Sunday, 16th December, respectively.
Poland's Kamil Stoch and the 17-year-old German shooting star Andreas Wellinger where the only “non-Austrians” on the podium during the competition weekend. Stoch came in second on Saturday while Wellinger shared the second place on the podium with Kofler the day after.
Both events were competitions on the highest level and the field of the best 15 athletes was extremely tight. This also explains that Andreas Kofler, only ninth after the first round, was able to capture the win on Saturday with an outstanding jump in the final round.
Schlierenzauer (448 points) has now taken the lead in the overall World Cup ranking, ahead of Germany’s Severin Freund (430 points) and his teammate Andreas Kofler (396 points).
The men’s tour will continue on 28th December with the first stage of the famous Four-Hills Tournament, entering its 61st edition, in Germany’s Oberstdorf.
Takanashi wins ladies tournament in Ramsau; Kofler and Schlierenzauer triumph in Engelberg
In an exciting competition in Ramsau am Dachstein on 14th December, Japanese Sara Takanashi could capture her second win this season and will enter the Christmas break with the leaders' bib.
In the final competition of the year 2012, she won ahead of Coline Mattel from France and Daniela Iraschko from Austria.
In the fight for the overall World Cup Sara Takanashi could now extend her lead. With 340 points, she is ahead of Coline Mattel (266 points) and Sarah Hendrickson (252 points).
The ladies tour will continue from 4th-6th January 2013, in Schonach-Schoenwald, Germany.
