KONGSBERG signs as presenting sponsor of FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund Kongsberg, Norway / Oberhofen, Switzerland 07.07.2011//- Kongsberg Gruppen (KONGSBERG) and the International Ski Federation (FIS) announced today that KONGSBERG, a leading high-technology supplier of industry, has become the presenting sponsor of the FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund (NOR). The agreement was negotiated by FIS Marketing AG, an independent company tasked with the sales and handling of FIS controlled marketing rights. The FIS Ski Flying World Championships 2012, to be held from 23rd-26th February, represent the 22nd edition of the biennial event that has been staged since 1972. The Vikersund ski flying hill was recently rebuilt and officially opened last February with FIS World Cup competitions. It is considered to be the world's largest hill facility and local jumper Johan Remen Evensen promptly set the current world record of 246.5 meters during the inaugural event there on 11th February 2011. "FIS is extremely pleased to welcome KONGSBERG on board as a partner for one of FIS's landmark events. Ski Flying is the dream of every ski jumper and fascination of every ski jumping enthusiast. The three days of competition at Vikersund next February are again sure to thrill the world of sports," commented FIS President Gian Franco Kasper. "KONGSBERG was also the main sponsor for the test event for the World Championships at Vikersund in 2011. These FIS World Cup events were extremely successful and will be remembered for some spectacular jumps and great sporting moments on the world's biggest ski flying hill. The FIS Ski Flying World Championships award medals and the FIS world champion titles in an individual and a team event. The 2010 FIS Ski Flying World Championships in Planica (SLO) saw more than 80'000 on-site spectators in the course of three days. More than 450 accredited journalists and photographers were on site from 20 countries and millions of TV viewers watched the 2010 Championships.
