FIS Freestyle Junior Worlds 2011 in Jyväskylä The FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships in moguls will be held in Jyväskylä, Finland, on March 19th-20th 2011. The title competitions in both moguls and dual moguls will see approximately one hundred athletes from 16 countries competing. Jyväskylä has traditions as a Freestyle town already since the 1970's and the Laajavuori ski resort, only a five-minute drive from the city center, has served as a venue for many competitions until the late 90's. It has hosted the FIS Freestyle Junior World Ski Championships twice before, in 1994 and 1997, respectively. The World Championships 2011 project required some course construction to meet the latest FIS course specifications and last autumn, the traditional Laajavuori mogul course was rebuilt in close co-operation with the city of Jyväskylä and the ski resort. The venue is in perfect shape to stage the battles for the World Championship medals as this year's event effectively returns Jyväskylä back on the freestyle map. Expectations are high on the Finnish Freestyle Team, too. Both Ville Miettunen and Jussi Penttala have made great runs at the FIS Freestyle World Ski Championships at Deer Valley (USA) and three skiers from the hosting Jyväskylä Freestyle Club will also compete: Lassi Mustonen, Veli-Valtteri Vanhala and Jimi Salonen are going to thrill the home crowd. FIS European Cup moguls competition at Laajavuori on Friday 18th before the title events will provide even more momentum for the weekend.
