He was presented with the award by Markus Tschoner, President of Best of the Alps® and Franz Julen, CEO of IIC Intersport International who gave the laudatio, during a special award ceremony at the Kulm Hotel St. Moritz on Thursday 15th December 2011.

The ceremony was attended by 125 guests, with Federal Councilor Ueli Maurer and President of the International Olympic Committee Jacques Rogge also sending messages of congratulation via a huge video screen.

Markus Tschoner, President of Best of the Alps®, outlined the reasons for the choice of winner: "In his professional career, Gian Franco Kasper has devoted himself to promoting tourism and sport with enormous success. In doing so, he has struck a balance between winter sports business and the environment".

Gian Franco Kasper commented on his award: "I would like to share my joy at receiving this award by thanking all those who have been actively working for the benefit of the sports and the Alpine region for so many years. I would also like to combine this award with the wish that all of us - the sports world, industry, trade and tourism - continue our efforts to unite the people with sports and nature."
