Action-packed Ski Jumping test events in Sochi

As the discipline’s main test event ahead of the 2014 Olympic Winter Games in Sochi, Russia held its first-ever FIS Ski Jumping World Cup events on 8th-9th December 2012.

In the first of two individual competitions, last season's overall World Cup winner, Sarah Hendrickson took the victory on the ladies’ side. After the American finished second to Japan's Sara Takanashi in the season opener in Lillehammer, she turned the tables around in Sochi. On the second competition day, two other ladies stood on top of the podium: Daniela Iraschko of Austria and Coline Mattel of France landed a joint victory while third place went to Takanashi.

The Japanese now leads the overall World Cup standings with 240 points, ahead of Sarah Hendrickson (216) and Daniela Iraschko (190).
In the men’s event, Gregor Schlierenzauer of Austria won on the normal hill and collected his 42nd World Cup victory to move just four wins behind Matti Nykänen's (FIN) all-time record. The Austrian edged out Severin Freund (GER) to claim the win, while Andreas Kofler (AUT) completed the podium for his best finish of the season until that day.

The following day, Kofler continued his strong form by claiming a clear victory ahead of the German jumpers Richard Freitag and Andreas Wellinger, who took his first World Cup podium.

In the overall World Cup ranking, Germany’s Severin Freund (340) leads ahead of Gregor Schlierenzauer (288) and Norway’s Anders Bardal (226).
The ladies’ FIS Ski Jumping World Cup presented by Viessmann will move to Ramsau (AUT) on 14th December, while the men will continue on 15th and 16th December in Engelberg (SUI).
