Freestyle Ski education focus on pipe, slopestyle The annual series of Freestyle Skiing judges' education sessions has just concluded. More than 200 judges or judge candidates from 21 nations attended the mandatory update seminars held at eight locations worldwide, from Tokyo and Changchun in Asia to Kelowna, Quebec City and Park City in North America and Annecy, Friedrichshafen and Oslo in Europe. The focus of this year's education sessions was on the implementation of the new rules and competition management details for Freestyle ski halfpipe and slopestyle events in order to facilitate their continuing growth on the national and international levels. The continuing education of the Freestyle ski officials in these new events plays an important role in the global preparation towards the Sochi 2014 Games where they will see their Olympic debuts. Organized in cooperation with the AFP, Association of Freeskiing Professionals, as part of the seminar series, more than 40 judge candidates passed their exams for judging park & pipe competitions on the national levels. This year's official education series also saw the first joint Technical Delegate update sessions for Freestyle Skiing and Snowboarding. Thanks to the efforts of the recently established Freestyle Skiing-Snowboarding Coordination Group, these two disciplines are actively seeking out opportunities for synergies and cooperation opportunities in areas such as rule harmonization for slope, pipe and cross events. Enhanced alignment across the board will aid and enable even faster growth for the national and grass-roots level programs. |
